The Riverside Walk is a wonderful stroll up the canyon past cottonwood trees and along the bubbling Virgin River. You can expect a gentle walk along a paved path with gentle inclines now and again. Along with the plethora of squirrels and tourists, there are plenty of hanging gardens decorating the canyon walls on this hike. Interestingly, along this hike you'll also encounter Zion's swamp alongside the trail - an actual swamp created by the water which trickles out of the Navajo Sandstone. This hike is sometimes called the "Gateway to the Narrows" because where the River Walk ends, the canyon walls narrow out, and the Zion Narrows trail begins. You can access this trail by taking the shuttle to the farthest stop up the canyon, and there are many places along the way where you can take a break and play in the river. At the end of this walk, there is a great place to have lunch and splash in the water during the hot summer months.
