Twisted Forest Trail is a short 0.9-mile round-trip hike near Brian Head Peak that winds through ancient bristlecone pine trees and ends at a scenic overlook of Cedar Breaks National Monument. The trail is an easy and rewarding outing that typically takes about 40 minutes to complete.
9:38 - 0.8 miles / 3 minutter - 9:42
The trail begins on a small open bench with spectacular view looking into Cedar Breaks and Ashdown Gorge Wilderness Area. The trail follows a dirt road approximately 400 yards before descending along an open sidehill and into a stand of mature aspen. The trail traverses the sidehill coming out into a level area near a dead lake. The trail works its way through a large opening dropping off a scrub oak sidehill, descending through the oak to a ridge spine covered with large fir trees. Trail then goes through a drainage to an old aspen pole fence, turns southeast, and drops through an opening surrounded by large scrub oak to a pond of live water. Trail continues past several large openings and dead lakes before entering more scrub oak and juniper and a series of switch backs. It then drops into Lake Creek and over a small saddle, into Rattlesnake Creek and Trail #051.
